The inspiration for anything comes from many places of course. This particular illustration can find its' roots manifested in two previous posts on this website. One being the very first post of this blogs' existence, an old rusty texture that I made available to download. This was primarily the beginning of my visual inspiration. And the second one is more of a subject matter inspiration. I am not a fan of winter but I did post here that it could be inspiring. Winter has a tendency to search out and destroy as much living plant life as possible.
Hence the subject of this illustration, a robotic arm reaching out to pluck the last living flower from existence.
Using the Rust texture in various places combined with the subject matter inspiration a decent illustration is created without any headaches or hours spent sketching random thoughts. A detail shot:
I thought it might fun to also post a few sketches of work in progress. I am not very good at drawing, it is something I am working on, so they are very loose. However, the idea is there and that's the important part. Here are two pen sketches on some scrap paper.
