Five Simple Steps February 2nd, 2009

Yes, designing on the web is that easy. Until you realize that the very basic five steps covering the topic span a full 264 pages. Even the core ideas are really vast. What am I talking about you ask? Well, this morning in my email I got a nice little note that Mark Boulton's newest book 'Five Simple Steps - Designing for the Web' was now available for purchase. The book looks great, especially for designers that don't have that much experience with web design. It comes in PDF format for a very reasonable price and is immediately downloadable, nice. Crack the virtual cover and brush up on your web design skills.

Enjoy, and be Inspired!

Update: after some investigation, I learned that the typeface from the cover is 'Jubilat' by Joshua Darden. Good Stuff.

Hey Dom, is this book good for a non designer looking to acquire some basic web design skills? If not, can you recommend something?

Keith, most definitely. Although I just got it yesterday and haven't even really cracked the virtual cover that much yet I would say yes. Keep in mind a lot of it is very basic, what CMYK and RGB stand for, etc. But it's got some good stuff like type hierarchy and grid design that go a little more in depth.

I don't know of any books off hand that would be a little more advanced, most stuff I've seen get's published on the web, go figure, good places to start are here and here.

    Hope this helps!
