Way back when I first started this blog I did a write up on a good friend of mine, Ben Schlitter. Having kept close tabs on him and his wife, erinzam, over the past year or so since this site started I think it is about time to post about his work again. Studiobenben recently released some new illustrations and has them up for sale on Etsy. As always with his work, the quality is stellar. I really like these fun little guys, the color is great and the atmosphere the sketches create is just plain fun. The names took me forever to get, don't know why I'm so daft sometimes. Just get out a mirror if you're puzzled. Blastoff, and buy some new art for your walls.

Layer Tennis!

In case you missed it, I didn't get a post in yesterday due to the fact that I was hammering back and forth at a layer tennis match. In case you don't know what Layer Tennis is, it is matches put on by the Coudal Partners, here's a short description straight from them, "Two competitors will swap a file back and forth in real-time, adding to and embellishing the work. Each artist gets fifteen minutes to complete a â€œvolleyâ€ and then we post it to the site live". It was a ton of fun and I want to give a big shout out to my esteemed opponent Sarah Lodwick. Here are some sample volleys, you can see the whole match on their site, so put on your tennis socks and get serving!

Fantastic Russian Photography

During the last days of the Russian empire and the ruling of the Czars, a photographer by the name ofÂ Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii was commissioned to travel across the country and photograph the Russian empire. The photos were shot three times with a Red, a Green, and a Blue filter so that they could be combined into color photographs. The resulting works are outstanding both for their subject matter, which ranges from architecture to people to machinery, and for their color. Snap visuals of the entire collection and meet the Russia you never knew.

The Geometric Book

This book looks incredibly fun and entertaining. Pretty simple and straightforward, it is comprised of a collection of illustrations made with various geometric patterns. But with all of the variations, it looks like it would be hours worth of fun to pore through. And, as a bonus, it comes with 100 geometric pattern fonts that you can use to your little heart's desire to create your own patterns. Happy Monday everyone, I hope that the weekend treated everyone well. To start off the week I have for you some great new work from ColorCubic. Quoting Martin Luther King Jr, the duo of Christy Lai and Michael John are off and running to 'Design a Better World' through compassion for suffering societies and environments. A multi-disciplinary design studio with a hefty amount and variation of work, these folks are sure to get closer to their goals of changing the world every day.
